The Des Moines Public School system has over 30,000 students in elementary, middle, secondary, and special schools. The schools also employ nearly 5000 full-time staff members, from teachers, to custodians, to administrators, to cafeteria workers. The graduation rate in 2006 across the school board was 82%, which is its highest rate in 5 years.
